BLUE RIVER

(Pete Wain)

I lived beside a river
In a forest with a view
A weeping willow bowed its head
Touched the ground by the blue river
I used to swim beneath that tree
I woudn't feel the cold
If I did I didn't care

'cause I loved that BLUE RIVER
I loved that BLUE RIVER

I loved that BLUE RIVER

I remember the first day I saw them
moving concrete on the land I loved so much
Their hands sealed the living ground
like a tomb, by the blue river
I remember the strange feeling I had
I didn't know then what it was all about
If i did I would have cried

I would have cried BLUE RIVER

I would have cried BLUE RIVER

I would have cried BLUE RIVER

Why can't they leave you alone?
Why does everything change for the worse, tell me why?
Tell me why can't they leave you alone?
Why does everything change for the worse, tell me why?
    Tell me why?

The bricks grew taller than the trees
Blocked out the sun that used to dance on the water
A smell of furnace in the air
A tint of yellow in that blue river
I saw the look that was in the eyes
Of the life that struggled to survive
When that blue river died

BLUE RIVER
BLUE RIVER

BLUE RIVER
